We experience property crime as individuals but prevent it as communities. When neighbors know one another, report suspicious people to their police department, and get together occasionally to renew their commitments to keeping their block safe, they enjoy significantly less crime than residents in neighbors without watch groups.
Neighborhood Watch, or “block watch” organizations have a proven effect. The Richmond Police Department knows this. For that reason, their staff is ready to help Neighborhood Watch programs get off the ground. For help getting started, contact Michelle Milam, with the RPD.
